What’s my “style” and what are my areas of specialization?

My style is client-centered and solution-focused.

We begin with a basic intake – which is just getting to know the person sitting across from me.
My approach to counseling is fairly simple – a basic problem solving model:
 – What are the presenting problems?
 – What have you tried already to remediate the issues?
 – What has worked, worked somewhat, or not at all?
 – How has your family of origin influenced your decision making and patterns?
 – We then will explore together other solution ideas – and tailor them to the clients’ “come from”

I am also a fully trained EMDR therapist.
 –
It is my  job to be your “guide on the side”.  I value the client’s time, and believe that time is at a premium during visits  – so – we roll up our sleeves and get to work.
My areas of specialization include – but are not limited to:
 – family systems
 – parenting of all types
 – children with specific needs or challenging behaviors
 – marriage – conflict remediation, communication coaching, and “commitment check-up”
 – anger/behavior issues
 – substance abuse/addiction
 – eating disorders
 – grief
 – self-concept and insecurities/communication and conflict problems
 – children/teen issues – developmental, relationships, peer problems, school, drugs/alcohol, anger,   responsibility and respect issues
 – ADD/ADHD – tools for coping
 – caring for elderly parents/family members
 – spiritual wounds – having “hurts”/confusion that were generated in a religious setting

I consider it an honor to work alongside my clients – listening, planning, coaching, and counseling.
